New Green Era at Marvaco in Scandinavia

Published by Marvaco

At the beginning of February, Marvaco moved to a new production facility in Helsingborg, Sweden, which initiated a series of investments to further improve the company’s sustainability in 2021. The Marvaco Group is investing in reducing solvent processing in plate manufacturing and increasing the sustainability of production through several actions.

Jan Viberg, GM of Marvaco Sweden, is happy to start the new year with a complete transformation at a new site and with the latest technology. “This technology installation is the first of its kind in Scandinavia. Our unit in Helsingborg is now the first completely solvent-free prepress house in the Nordic countries. Customer demand is constantly rising, and this allows us to continue to provide the highest-quality services more sustainably.”

The new premises are planned for an optimal production flow with efficient heating and lower energy consumption. At the same time, the installation of state-of-the-art equipment reduces energy consumption compared to traditional plate production. This, combined with the site’s strategical location, leads to more eco-efficient and agile flexo plate production.

Marvaco plate production in Helsingborg is now solvent-free

Friedrich von Rechteren, Global Commercial Vice President of XSYScomments: “We are very pleased to expand our partnership with Marvaco as they take the next step in their quest to offer the most environmentally-friendly production methods in the industry. With the investment in our solvent-free nyloflex® Xpress Thermal Plate Processing System, Marvaco is once again leading the way in innovation. They are taking on an advanced technology of XSYS that offers faster plate production, high-end plate quality and easier handling, while also eliminating solvents and reducing waste. This unique value proposition will enable them to reduce the carbon footprint of flexo platemaking and to support their brand customers in meeting sustainability targets. The future is green, the future is brilliant.”

While FMCG brand owners and packaging companies highly value the economical use of raw materials and energy, faster speed to market and flexibility are also required. Therefore, Marvaco continues to invest in EGP™ capability so that printers can achieve short color-matching times with fewer adjustments and more colorful designs with less waste.

Kai Lankinen, Executive Partner at Marvaco, says that we can make choices to favor carbon-neutral alternatives and curb global warming: “We are investing in our production to support packaging printers in becoming more eco-efficient with our Expanded Gamut Printing (EGP™) solution for GreenerPrinting™. This year we will take further investment steps to reduce the carbon footprint within the Marvaco Group.”
